DHS Releases REAL ID Regulation

The DHS just released final regulations on REAL ID:

Final Rule
Questions and Answers
Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA)

More here, and here.

Isn't it amazing how complicated it is to just live, move, and have our being in the United States-- a "free" country?

Thank you for this blog!!

What can we do to stop this from going forward? Call congressmen? What else? Do you have any links or ideas about how to end this program?

Please create a section for "Action"!!

Liberty,

Thanks for your comment.

As for action, I believe this needs to be fought at every level.

As a simple guy, I'm just speaking my voice into the whirlwind...

But I do think that we need to start fighting this on the state level. Every state legislator needs to hear from us because the states can "opt" out.

If enough states do so, we might be able to sink this thing.

We need to talk the Republicans Party. REAL ID was initially passed as an overwhelmingly Republican measure. Why "conservatives" are for this is beyond me. They should never speak of "limited government" again...

I absolutely despise the ACLU, but--as a stopped clock--it can be right twice a day... They may have some momentum going on over there.

Call the Heritage Foundation and challenge them on their support for the electronic net they want to cast over every American.

The CATO institute seems to be against this measure.

Call your DMV and lodge your complaint.

Also, tell your friends about this. Most people, unbelievably, are unaware.

Also, make sure you speak accurately about the bill. There is a lot of confusion over it--and extreme conspiracy thinking and inaccurate statements hurt.
