Well, she's no Mark Sanford on this issue, but is head and shoulders above Pawlenty. Would she have enough influence over McCain to get him to back away from a big government mentality that is eroding our freedoms? That is what would matter. I would be interested to see if she has allowed Alaska to create an "Enhanced Drivers License" with Canada, the one they put a RFID chip into. These "EDLs" are really just another AAMVA led national ID initiative by another name. If she has, she is pulling a Washington State, where they rejected REAL ID but then turned around and started chipping their licenses.
It is unclear at this point whether she actually signed the bill, it has been reported both ways. She may have just let it become law by not signing it or vetoing it. Since it passed by a reportedly veto proof margin, her not signing it seems to indicate she was taking a middle ground to say the least.
